Eket Senatorial District Leaders Celebrate Governor Akpabio

The people of Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State has described Governor Godswill Akpabio as a sincere and upright leader whose patriotism and commitment has accounted for the massive transformation witnessed in the State in the last eight years. Under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Leaders Forum, they popped bottles of champagne, sang praises to God and extolled the virtues of Governor Akpabio during what they described as a thank you visit to the Governor in his office.

The leader of the delegation and former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Rt Honourable (Chief) Nduese Essien recalled that the zoning of the governorship slot to Eket Senatorial District came after a town hall meeting between the State Governor, his political party with stakeholders in each of the ten Federal Constituencies of the State.

Chief Essien averred that Governor Akpabio on realizing that the people of the State rooted strongly for power-shift to Eket Senatorial District decided to support and encourage the decision of the people that the district which had never produced a governor since creation of the State in 1987, be supported to produce the next governor in 2015.

The two-term lawmaker described Akpabio as “a good pilot, sound administrator and a straightforward person” and commended him for being firm in his decision despite pockets of resistance and verbal attacks on his person by self-seeking politicians.

He debunked accusations that there was no governorship election in the State on April 11 as peddled by some persons and called on aggrieved persons to join hands with the governor-elect in moving the State forward.

Chief Essien asserted that with the agreement on zoning, the track record of achievements and God-fearing disposition of the candidate, as well as a firmly rooted political platform such as PDP, it was not surprising that the people came all out to support and vote for Mr Udom Emmanuel.

In his response, an elated Chief Akpabio lauded the people of the district for the visit, maintaining that it has debunked allegations of violence and irregularities being peddled in some quarters by few chieftains of the opposition.

He described the decision to zone the governorship slot to Eket Senatorial District as a fair, just and equitable one that would enhance the unity, togetherness and understanding among the people.

The Governor expressed the belief that Udom would perform creditably well and leave worthy legacies for the people, calling on aggrieved persons and contestants to sheath their sword in the interest of the development of the State.

Governor Akpabio observed that there was need to create an alternative economic base to sustain development in the state, and charged the Governor-elect to seek a process of bringing development from the hinterland to the major towns.

The Governor-elect, Udom Emmanuel thanked the Governor for his support and Akwa Ibom people for voting him into power as their governor and called on aggrieved person to join hands with him in the development of the State.

While thanking the people of his senatorial district for standing by him, Emmanuel said he was already in contact with international investors and assured of his readiness to embark on economic transformation of the State upon assumption of office.

“We will run the State with high discipline. I accord adequate respect to our elders. I will empower the youths and ensure adequate welfare for our students”, he added.
