Why indigenes in Diaspora endorsed Udom

Akwa Ibom indigenes in the United Kingdom have thrown their weight behind the candidature of Udom Emmanuel, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer in the forthcoming governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.

Giving reasons for the move, the indigenes, under the auspices of Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA) UK chapter, in a press statement by its Coordinator, Mr. Imoh Umoetuk, disclosed that with the emergence of Udom as the flag-bearer of the PDP in the state, a number of UK companies have indicated interest in partnering the group to establish profitable ventures in the state.

According to him, “these partnerships are capable of boosting the socio-economic development of Akwa Ibom State and assisting the state in creating a private- sector-driven economy.”

Umoetuk further stressed the readiness of Akwa Ibom indigenes living in the UK to utilise their diverse professionalism to attract investment to Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.

The coordinator further explained that members of ACA in the UK were highly skilled professionals, who held strategic positions in blue chip companies abroad and had decided to use their positions to attract investments to key sectors of the economy to engender development.

Umoetuk, a lawyer, also highlighted the level of infrastructure development, which the present administration in the state had put in place, saying it formed the bedrock for future economic development.
